Good Chase Today in South-Central Virginia
Today, Mark Ellinwood and myself once again ventured out to chase some Regional/local storm possibilities in the Mid-Atlantic. Today it was central and south-central Virginia. About my third time in the area and Mark’s first the chase went pretty well. We did not make [...]

Quick storms, tomorrow is another chase.

Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 11:28pm EDT
Weak Storm helped me get in the mood for tomorrow.

Some pulse type storms came through today. Decent when the line of storms form to the west in the far western Maryland, southeastern Pennsylvania and adjoining counties in West Virginia, but diminished after crossing the Potomac River and entering Montgomery [...]

EARTHQUAKE! DC area shaken by possible quake

Only been about 25 minutes, and still awaiting confirmation (likely from the US Geological Survey / USGS) on the earthquake that struck the Washington, DC metro area.  I felt it pretty good here in Gaithersburg, MD at around 5:05am this morning.

It woke me up with a bang and then a shutter that gradually decreased in [...]

Chase Summary from yesterday.

Monday, April 26th, 2010 at 12:45pm EDT
A summary of yesterday’s local storm chase.
A short chase/intercept with (I believe) less than 100 miles driven. The most interesting part….actually having a chaser convergence in Maryland.

WHAT? Yup, Bill Hark and myself happen to run into each other in Maryland, west of Frederick, Maryland after following some [...]

Some pictures from the local Chase Yesterday

Not a tornado people!

Neither is this!

Kinda looks like palm trees…but they are baby walnut trees.

This is a sample of the hail that I reported to NWS at quartersize.
