More Rain, return to Cold. Watching and Warnings to boot.

Lots of rain, some flooding, and a cold temperatures on the way.
Starting late last evening, a number of flood watches and warnings were issued. Also, some wind advisory has been issued.
Let’s start with the wind advisory. NWS from Sterling, VA (DC/Baltmore area) says that overnight starting around 2am Monday and lasting through around 10am. Winds will be around 20-30mph with some gusts up to 50mph. I’ll have to run out after finishing this blog and put the weather station up on the higher platform, see if I can get a high wind reading.
Now, a Flash Flood Watch is still in affect and will continue to around 10am Monday morning. While the rain around the house hasn’t been too bad, areas of the NWS forecast area saw some heavier rains. This has not been a dramatic affect, but the flooding is likely, even if only enough to be noticeable. Most folks in DC are happy this was not another winter weather snow event. However, we are only half through our winter and chances for another significant storm are possible.
Speaking of winter weather, we are due to start dropping in temperatures after these two fronts pass within the next day or so. By mid week we could see night time temperatures drop all the way back down to the 20s. However no precipitation anticipated with these front. Any chances for winter precipitation (snow and/or ice) would be toward the end of the week, but forecasting out that far is iffy at best.
Now, this is part of a system that extends all the way down into Florida and includes a tornado watch at the moment. Severe weather has been reported, including but not limited to a tornado report in Tennessee right on the border with Kentucky. Most of the storm activity as of this writing were all the way into the southeastern states of Georgia, N.Florida, South and North Carolina. Flooding is also common in many of the areas that saw this system push through. Tomorrow the first (of two) cold fronts will have pushed through for the main part, but some severe activity might actually be left over in the early morning, but be fully clear by midday (per SPC convective Outlook). Another cold front will move in and in a few days will drop our temperatures here in DC back into the 20s in the overnight hours.
