Surprise snow totals for DC area.

Hot water heater issues prevented any outing today in the snow.
I was all set for today. Actually I was even going to head out last night, going south toward the higher snow fall rates and anticipated snow depths. However, before starting to get my things together I had to finish up some cleaning around the house. Upon opening the utility closet I find water on the floor around the hot water heater. Luckily it wasn’t much, be enough to be concerned. I had to clear out the closet of the various items stored on the floor. mostly tools and a few boxes. Nothing with lasting damage. But I knew at this point I wasn’t going to be able to complete any of the plans I had for today.

My original plans were to cover and participate in the Polar Bear Plunge in the Chesapeake Bay. When the threat of snow was also headed this way, I was going to cover that too. It certainly was to be a full Saturday worth of streaming video and fun activity.

I did not replace the hot water heater (HWH) yet, as it seems to be stable, but may still need replacing. I’m keeping a close eye on it. I’m thinking I’ll just head out tomorrow morning to get some photos locally and then head back home to continue to watch and test the HWH. If I can’t figure it out, have a pro scheduled for Monday.

Oh, and did end up with about 5 inches of snow here at the house. This is the first time, in a long time, that I was able to shovel the sidewalk, parking space and more while it was still snowing. I’m almost always out covering the storm and have to shovel the snow the next morning (or some of the neighbors get it for me….great neighbors).
