May 16th, 2009, Summer
Thunderstorm
One of the first good thunderstorms this summer in what would become an
active summer locally for storms. This, like many of my storm
intercepts this season was local enough to not even be considered a
chase. This was also one of the last times I would have to use
the convertible for going out to see storms. The photos were
taken from atop the Shady Grove Metro parking garage. I don't
shoot much from this location anymore because during the week it is now
gated as a paid garage rather than a metered system. However on
the weekends, or if I feel like parking in the Kiss-N-Ride area, and
walking over to the garage I can still use this spot. As you can
see, it is a great spot as one of the only unobstructed views in the
northern half of Rockville.
Like many of the storms that approach from the northwest, this system
had a great shelf cloud, although not completely visable in the photos.
