WW0630 (Tornado watch 630)

Summary (by Jason Foster)

Today in the Mid-atlantice we see a slight risk for severe weather with a 2% tornado probability (SPC).  I will be first staging around Laurel, Maryland to determine if I should move north toward Baltimore (for better stock weather shots), or follow the greater severe threat south and east.  Look for pictures and possibly even some video this afternoon and evening.--July 14, 2004 -10:19am est

I've repositioned to south of D.C. in Southwestern Prince Georges County.  I'm anticipating on going south toward Charles County to follow a storm that has a good DBz return on the radar.  Most of the warnings are for a little north and west of here, but I like the cell that's at the soutn end of the line.  Tail end Charlie usually produces the best results.

Yes, I did give-up a stock video day to chase, but hey, I'm chasing!  About 2 hours to the main action begins.  May not be able to update until much later tonight.--July 14, 2004 -2:14pm est

Later shots show obvious damage to large trees.  In the Tiptop Hill area just of Rt. 5 in St. Mary's County I noticed 30" diameter tree taken down.  Also my observations noted that most all trees we broken toward the east and were few and far between.  The area was very isolated and could have been a mild and small downburst.  Although this day made for a very exciting chase day, it did not yeild the quality shots for posting.--July 15, 2004 -12:45pm est
