Chase Summary:
This chase was one in a string of days that Mark Ellinwood and I ventured out for chasing in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The day prior we were in ___________________ and after this day we chased again, but in ______________________. This day was also pegged with a few problems but a few rewards as well. From the images above, you can see some of the rewards...really good lightning shots. However those shots were not direct grabs so they aren't really marketable shots.

Some of the problems were centered around the laptop which was having an issue with the power cord. At the time I was not sure if it was the connector at the laptop or the cord/AC Adapter. Luckily it was the latter, but on this day it was not performing well at all. I had taken the chance with the log file, not stopping it until nearly the end of the chase. At the point when we were backtracking to find a "suspected" tornado touchdown, the power gave out (battery isn't work right) and I lost the entire travel/GPS log of the chase that day. I do have a little bit of the log once I rebooted, but it is only a small smidgen of the actual GPS log from that day.

The day started out leaving for the chase a little late, chasing in Mark's vehicle, we left the Gaithersburg, Maryland area for central Pennsylvania. As we had done before, we cut through to Baltimore, around I-695 to I-83north into Pennsylvania. We were (well, I was) concerned a bit about the timing, as some showers were already pushing into north-central Pennsylvania. It wasn't clear just yet if these or other storms behind those would form into the 'storm of the day' which we were after.

Eventually connecting with I-81 northbound, we drove north quite a bit.

We pushed north attempting to get into position for the main cells as they started to crest the ridge that was north and west of Scranton. We had a hard time looking for a decent spot to watch the storms come in. They were well formed coming into the area, but the line weakened some once they were in the area. However, tornado warnings were issued and we were within the warning polygon.

This storm later went on to Brooklyn, New York to produce one hell of a hail storm there that even the national news media picked up on.
