SUMMARY:
The
most prolific CG lightning photograph day I've ever done. Not the most
prolific CG storm...although certainly in the top 5. We just don't get
these kind of chances in the Mid-Atlantic. I probably have 50+/- CG
shots. I only shot for about an hour.
The storms were very weak
too. Low Precipitation, low topped, low (or non-existent) VILs, DBz's
on radar didn't top 60, and only produced fractions of an inch of rain.
The line was associated with a warm front and trained over the same
area for quite awhile. I can't remember ever seeing a system set-up
like this in this area....at least since the 1980s.
All these
shots are on the Canon 7D with the "kit" 28-135mm lens. I used mostly
15sec exposures, but some were less, some were 30sec (max.). I don't
have a remote release yet for manual "bulb" shooting...and trying that
while hold the camera button down is a bad idea. Also, I did not tripod
the shots, but set the camera on a soft back on a picnic table. That's
why you might see a tad of camera shake in the foreground images.
