December 9th, 2005 - Winter Storm
2002 chaser header

In Rockville the streets were pretty much plowed by the time I got around to them.  Especially the well travelled routes.
In the Kentland development in Gaithersburg however, none of the street were plowed and no sign of trucks in sight. Unlike Rockville, this neightborhood is plowed by private companies that is paid for by home  owner association fees.

December 9th, 2007 Snow Statistics and Information:

Summary from Sterling, VA (DC region) National Weather Service (NWS):
A major winter storm impacted the Mid-Atlantic Region on the 8th and 9th.  A coastal low pressure storm developed off the southeast coast, meanwhile a strong upper=level storm moved from the Ohio Vally to the Eastern Great Lakes.  All this combine to generate a swath of generally light accumulations of snow and ice across the noted winter weather area.  Still, even these relatively light accumulations had a significant impact on the commerce and travel across the region, specially since sever winter storm conditions occurred nearby.  Generally, sotrm total snowfall ranged between 1 to 4 inches, while ice accumulations were two-tenths of an inch or les.  3 fatalities occured (indirect) as a result of this storm system in traffic related accidents, all occuring in Maryland.
