WASHINGTON, DC "DURING" THE STORM

February 5th, 2010

(Left) National Cathedral on Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC
(Above) A cottage on the Cathedral grounds

A view from Ohio Drive along the Potomac River with the 14th St. bridge in the view.  This is the same bridge that a plane crashed into in 1983 during a bad storm.  No planes were flying tonight.

A VDOT plow truck on I-395 going across the Potomac River.  It was very hard for the plows to keep up with this system at this time.  In fact I could not exit the highway because the ramps were not plowed at all.

(Above) A view of downtown Gaithersburg (Olde Towne), Very early in the morning.

(Middle-left) A view of the CSX Railroad gate at Summit Avenue in Olde Towne Gaithersburg, Maryland

(near left) A view looking eastbound (Southbound) toward DC along the CSX railroad tracks.  Apparently one train did pass by while there was snow on the tracks, but track #2 was not touched and could not be seen at all because of the deep snow.

A pair of plow truck drivers coordinating at the intersection of Pooks Hill Rd. and Wisconsin Av. (Rt.355) in Bethesda, Maryland

A view from Wisconsin Av. (Rt.355) of the Bethesda Naval Hospital which is across the street from NIH in Bethesda, Maryland

A view from the Connecticut Ave NW bridge over the Rock Creek Park.  This view was spectacular, and I just wish I had a wide angle lens for this.

Another shot from the bridge at Connecticut Av. NW over the Rock Creek.

The Warrior Wagon at the Connecticut Av. NW bridge over the Rock Creek.  Some of the vista is visible here.

I found a crew of Fire Fighters and Police Officers working to cut trees that had fallen on cars.  This was on Belmont Rd next to the Rock Creek Park in NW Washington, DC

More of the crew of Fire Fighters and Police Officers working to cut trees that had fallen on cars.  This was on Belmont Rd next to the Rock Creek Park in NW Washington, DC

A WJLA News van at Dupont Circle.

Here a large amount of steam rises from a man hole cover with vent holes on top.  At times when the wind blew just right, the steam would rotate and it would look like a little tornado.

A view of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. I took this quick shot while working my way around to Independence Avenue.

The wind was caking the snow onto everything.  Signs were impossible to read at times.

A view of the Washington Monument from Madison Rd & Raoul Wallenberg Dr (aka 15th St) in Washington, DC.
